Location – Directions to The Chatroom

The Chartroom is well connected by the A78 to the M8, Glasgow and the M74 to England. SATNAV Postcode is PA16 0BF

The hourly train service to Glasgow takes 50 minutes. Trains leave Inverkip 10 minutes before each hour.

Glasgow airport is 45 minutes away, as is Prestwick with its low cost flights to London and Ireland.

The following directions are intended for guidance only and any passage should not be undertaken without consulting the local pilot books and charts.

Approx 28nm. After departing Loch Tarbert and heading out to the lower Loch Fyne, heading down towards the Inchmarnock water. Ardlamont point passes you to port and you will see the island of Inchmarnock ahead of you. On heading down channel the West Kyle will appear on your port after passing Ardlamont round up. Heading up this Kyle you can view the stunning area of Kames and Tighnabruaich which have visitor moorings that you can lie up and enjoy a break before continuing your passage on to Kip. On approaching the north tip of the West Kyle you round the point of Buttock and enter the East Kyle to travel down to approach the Rothesay Sound. Soon you will spot Toward point on your port side and rounding this point head up into the Firth of Clyde. On rounding the point the red roofs of Kips restaurant, The Chartroom, can be viewed along with the sheltered entrance.

Approaching the Firth of Clyde South of Arran distance approx 35nm. On passing southern Arran to your port the View of the Holy Isle will come into your path, which you will pass to your port. The entrance of the firth of Clyde will become visible with the south end of Bute on your port and the Isle of Little Cumbrae on your starboard. On passing this you will see ahead, to the North, the point of Toward which marks the split of the Clyde and the Kyles. Your choice of travelling up to Kip or taking a sail up the Kyle’s to view the anchorage areas or enjoying a picturesque trip of the superb views of the Scottish waters. On passing Toward to port Kip Marina will be visible. On rounding the point the red roofs of Kip’s restaurant. The Chartroom can be viewed along with the entrance buoy flashing green every 5 secs marking Kip’s sheltered marina. When entering the marina the office can be contacted on VHF channel 80.
